Madonna forgets to wax her top lip

At the U.S. premiere of her new film Filth & Wisdom, Madonna managed to shock, yet again, with a pair of gun-toting high heels.

Fortunately for the singer, her controversial shoes managed to distract from two style faux pas - her slightly hairy top lip and dark roots.

Wearing a black Dolce & Gabbana belted shift dress and Chanel stilettos, Madonna looked chic but professional at the screening of her directorial debut.

However, the 50-year-old's usual preened appearance was slightly let down by the darkened area just above her top lip, which she had apparently forgotten to wax or bleach.

The pop star also appeared to be a few weeks behind in topping up her bleach blonde roots at the hairdressers.

Madonna's premiere was going swimmingly for the Material Girl on Monday night. A host of A-list stars turned up, including Naomi Watts, Jessica Alba, Brooke Shields and Lindsay Lohan.

While the perfectionist Madonna would agree the night appeared to go well, she could not have been prepared for the unflattering close-up of her facial flaws - or the controversy over her stilettos.

Anti-violence groups have accused the singer of glamorising violence during a time when her adopted home of Britain is facing a dramatic rise in youths dying in shootings or stabbings.

Dee Edwards, co-founder of the charity Mothers Against Murder and Aggression said: 'I am utterly disgusted by this.

'It is not fashion, it is not style, it is an advert glorifying guns and making them seem acceptable.

'Kids are dying every day from gun and knife crime. I would like to see her walk into a mortuary or a hospital wearing those shoes to see a young child whose life has been ripped from him by guns.

'I would like to see her claim it as a fashion statement then.'

The 'offensive' footwear is not even on sale yet and will appear in stores in Chanel's 2009 Spring collection.

A Chanel representative said there is a huge waiting list for the shoes, which are expected to sell for $2,200 a pair.
