diva Mariah Carey wears glittering gowns for New Year
Mariah Carey chose to see in the new year in true diva fashion - with plenty of costume changes, glitz, glamour, champagne and confetti.
The singer was performing at Madison Square Gardens on New Year's Eve and told the crowd: 'They say I'm a diva, so might as well act like one.'
Mariah, who turns 40 this year, changed into sparkling outfits including a floor-length, low-cut silver gown, a tight red mini dress and a strapless white dress encrusted with gems.

During the evening she poked fun at herself and, according to Rolling Stone magazine, told the crowd, 'I need some lipstick real quick and my hair fluffed.'
She performed tracks from her back catalogue and stopped a song mid-way to count down the new year with blasts of confetti, streamers and balloons.
After attempting to sing Auld Lang Syne, her husband Nick Cannon joined her on stage for her first kiss of the new year.
He was there at the side of the stage to see her performance, which end with a rousing performance of Hero.
She left the stage on the arm of Nick after wishing everyone a happy 2010 and shouting 'I love you all!'

Mariah embarrasses smooch red carpet
You'd have thought that these two would have mastered the art of a public kiss by now.
Mariah Carey draped herself all over husband Nick Cannon on the red carpet yesterday as they engaged in yet another nauseating public show of affection.
But unfortunately for the diva, Cannon looked as though he wanted the smooch to be over and done with as quickly as possible.

The couple were attending a special screening of the first ever TeenNick Halo Awards at the Newseum in Washington D.C. last night, and stopped to pose for the cameras as they arrived.
Mariah, 39, clearly proud of her husband, who is the the chairman of Nickelodeon's TeenNick network and creator of the awards, decided to reward him with a big smooch.
But although he responded and planted a smacker on her lips, he looked awkward and uncomfortable as he screwed up his face and tried to pull back from her.

Maybe he was getting his own back after their appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show in September, when Mariah turned her nose up at 28-year-old Cannon's attempt to give her romantic kiss live on the show.
She was being interviewed by the talk show queen when Cannon joined her and gave her a peck on the cheek.
After was scolded by Oprah for being boring, he picked her up and bent her over, as she cried, 'don't drop me!'
He then pulled her up to give her a full-on exaggerated smooch before she pushed him away.

The TeenNick HALO Awards, which stands for Helping And Leading Others, awards teens who give something back to their community.
Four teens were honoured during the hour-long special, which will air on TeenNick in the US tomorrow night, by singers Alicia Keys and Justin Timberlake, actress Hayden Panettiere and basketball star LeBron James, who awarded the teens for making a difference to others' lives.
Cannon, who hosted the show, said: 'One person can make a difference, and it's my hope that this special will encourage ongoing activism and inspire a new generation of leaders

Mariah Carey's diva-style behaviour on GMTV is revealed by Kate Garraway
She insisted on bringing her own butterfly-shaped confetti to the X Factor and left the normally affable television host Phillip Schofield furious with her tardiness.
And now presenter Kate Garraway has revealed more of Mariah Carey’s diva-style behaviour following the singer’s appearance on GMTV.
Miss Garraway, 42, said the star - the world’s best-selling female artist - stunned producers by having two people to lower her on to the famous GMTV sofa.

She said the singer also had an entourage watching to ensure she was being filmed at her best angle and brought her own toilet roll to the studios.
The blonde host, who has this month returned to work on the ITV breakfast programme after having her second child, son Billy, said: 'We had Mariah Carey in the GMTV studios last week, where she was pre-recording an interview with Lorraine Kelly.
I've heard a lot of rumours about her being a diva over the years and guess what? It turns out it's all true!'
Miss Garraway added: 'While Mariah was very nice, the amount of people she had in her entourage was hilarious.
'They outnumbered the entire GMTV crew! She had two people to lower her on to the GMTV sofa, in case her dress got crushed, one person to walk in front of her backwards at all times in case she fell over and several people behind the camera making sure she was going to be filmed from the right angle!
'Have you ever heard anything like it? Oh, and she brought her own toilet roll as well.'
The presenter’s claims come after Miss Carey, 39, and her management made a host of demands to open Westfield shopping centre’s Christmas Wonderland last week.
More than 14 million watched as the star performed her new single, I Want To Know What Love Is, on the X Factor on Sunday night.
Some viewers questioned whether Miss Carey, who had pre-recorded her performance, was singing live.
One fan said: 'How bad is her miming?! A "superstar" that has to mime, what a disgrace!'.'

Another viewer said: 'Yes, she was miming. You see it well in the part where she took the mic off the stand in the middle of her singing and the voice didn't change.'
However, an X Factor spokeswoman insisted that Miss Carey had sung live as well as using a backing track.
The star recently claimed she is not a diva, despite admitting her dogs have their own entourage.
The singer said she had insisted on having assistants on hand for her Jack Russell pooches Cha Cha and JJ while filming a recent commercial, insisting: 'My puppies are starring in this ad with me, too.
'I had my team with me but the pups had a mini entourage of their own, of course! And why wouldn't they? It was a big shoot and even my entourage had an entourage - my stylist had an assistant, my security had extra security.

The shoot was based on the fact that some people think I'm a demanding diva. I have no idea why people have that impression!'
The 'Fantasy' singer has previously admitted to feeling baffled by her 'demanding' reputation.
She said: 'I am baffled, shocked and appalled when I am called a diva. I've never done one diva-ish thing in my life. The actual definition of a diva is a woman who sings well.
'The secondary definition is a woman who is difficult to deal with. I hope I am the first, but I really don't think I am the second. I don't believe I am truly nasty and act in a bad way.'
Miss Garraway was not in the studio at the same time as Miss Carey and her entourage.
However a source close to the presenter said: 'Kate got in shortly afterwards and the place was abuzz with what had happened. It was not so much Mariah, as she points out - but her entourage.'
Miss Carey’s spokeswoman called Miss Garraway’s claims are a 'clear, gross exaggeration'.
She said: 'With regards to the "entourage", every star of Mariah’s calibre is surrounded by a working team and Mariah doesn't actually have any more people working with her than any other major star.'
The interview with Kate Garraway is printed in New! magazine, which is out today.

Mariah Carey and the dog carrier: Singing diva steps out with her husband in Aspen
Mariah Carey has picked up a diva reputation over the years due to her outrageous demands and extensive entourage.
And it seems that the singer's husband Nick Cannon may have joined her notoriously huge team of assistants - as the dog carrier.
The dutiful 27-year-old was on hand to ferry Carey's dog Jack around as the couple enjoyed a white Christmas together in Aspen and the singer made sure she was dressed for the occasion.

Carey, 38, stepped out dressed in a winter-white outfit, including impractical white boots, to celebrate her first Christmas with Cannon.
The newlyweds, who were married in April after a whirlwind six week romance, looked happier than ever as they took a walk through the snow-filled streets.
Carey recently spoke of her excitement at spending the festive with her new husband.
‘I'm really looking forward to being in love on Christmas,’ she told Redbook magazine.

‘It's easy to be lonely that time of year, and in the past I just dove into that festive mode with a sort of I-don't-care attitude.
‘The holidays are always great, but being in love is going to be the icing on the cake.'
The couple, who originally met at the Kids' Choice Awards in 2005, fell for each other when Nick flew to Antigua at the end of March to play Carey's love interest in the video for her single Bye Bye.

The singer has spent the last ten Christmas's in Aspen and says there’s no place she’d rather be.
'Aspen is all about the snow and the environment, so it automatically puts you in that celebratory mood.
‘I don't really do up my New York apartment for Christmas; I save everything for Aspen,' she said.
The exotic location is also favoured by actress Paris Hilton, Hilary Swank and Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, who have all been pictured there this week.

Beyonce dons old lady hairpiece for golden Fashion Rocks performance
Her short blonde teased curls were more reminiscent of a pensioner than a pop princess.
But there was nothing over-the-hill about Beyonce's stunning performance as she joined dozens of stars at last night's Fashion Rocks event.
The former Destiny's Child singer, who is normally recognisable by her flowing tresses, stole the show with three incredible performances.

For one she swopped her long locks for a short blonde 'do. But the new look isn't permanent. The Dreamgirls actress is to play legendary jazz singer Etta James in the upcoming film, Cadillac Records, a biopic about legendary record producer Leonard Chess.
The 27-year-old also perfomed in an incredible sequinned outfit which highlighted her every curve.
She wore the clinging gold suit, with plunging neckline, for a sizzling duet with Justin Timerberlake of Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing. The pair's performance channeled the classic song's original singers, Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.

The fifth annual Fashion Rocks concert, at Radio City Music Hall in New York, was held to celebrate the relationship between music and fashion, while raising money for charity.
Beyonce was one of dozens of Hollywood and music stars who turned out to perform at the fundraiser for Stand Up To Cancer, a program established by the Entertainment Industry Foundation to raise money for cancer research.

She was joined on stage by Welsh singer Duffy, Mariah Carey, Natasha Bedingfield, Fergie, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus to sing their new charity song, Just Stand Up.
Charlize Theron and fellow Oscar winner Hilary Swank introduced the collaboration.

English singer Natasha Bedingfield said the event held a special significance to her, after losing her grandmother to cancer.
'This is the first time we're all together singing the song,' she said. 'It was really special. It was really like a sisterhood, like a bond.
'We're all used to being the stars - the only star in the room - and it was really nice I think that everyone could just come together and really support each other.'

Other performers included Kid Rock, Keith Urban, Duffy, the Pussycat Dolls and the Black Eyed Peas.
The event was supported by a live telethon that aired simultaneously on three American TV channels - ABC, NBC and CBS.
Amond those who turned out to offer their support to the cancer charity were US presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain.

They were joined by cancer sufferer Patrick Swayze, who spoke movingly of his battle with the pancreatic form of the disease.
'I keep dreaming of a future - a future with a long and healthy life,' he said. 'A life not lived in the shadow of cancer but in the light. I dream that everyone diagnosed will be fortunate to have hope.

'That every human being lost to cancer isn't gone but is standing here with us tonight. I see a future where all scientists come together with a unified agenda and share their research and their brilliance.
'I dream that the word cure will no longer be followed by the words it's impossible. We can do anything. But the longer we do nothing more people will die.'
